A One-Woman Show by Nicole Maxali

Things aren't right at home. Nicole’s lola (Tagalog for grandmother) is starting to forget more and more details. But now it's more than misplaced keys. In a span of three months she changes the locks on all the doors, starts driving on the wrong side of the street and shoplifts Rocawear and Sean John outfits from Serramonte Mall. As the family struggles through her grandmother's descent into dementia, Nicole faces the conflict between being a respectful Filipina apo (Tagalog for granddaughter) or pursuing her American dream of being the first Filipina-American actress to win an Oscar. What's a Fil-Am girl to do?

Described by Comedian Dave Chappelle as “funny, heartwarming and funny again,” Forgetting the Details is an endearing performance piece that captures the unwavering love between a lola and apo. Nicole Maxali's one-woman show will make you laugh, cry and remind you that in the end, it's not the details that matter.


Formerly, the Associate Producer of the HBO Workspace and Talent Consultant for the HBO's Comedy Festivals, Paul Stein has coordinated, produced, directed and seen hundreds and hundreds of one-person shows. Currently, Mr. Stein is the Executive Director of the Comedy Central Stage in Hollywood, a development venue sponsored by the network. As a director, Paul has staged numerous solo shows in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto, including performances at soloNova Festival, NY International Fringe, Summer Works Theatre Festival, Toronto Fringe and the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, CO. He is a graduate of L.A.C.C. Theater Academy, Cal State University, Los Angeles; and was the Artistic Director of Moving Arts, an ensemble dedicated to producing new plays and theatre works. He is a member of the Dramatist Guild and SDC.  Paul is also the Artistic Producer and conceiver of The Car Plays, the critically acclaimed site specific theatre event. Paul is also the Artistic Director of The Solo Collective, Los Angeles’ only Solo Performance Theatre Company.  A few solo directing highlights: Leonard Nimoy’s one-person play Vincent starring Jean-Michel Richaud at theatres in L.A. San Diego, New York (and upcoming in Paris, France and for UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance in 2015); Antonio Sacre’s Let Them Eat Meat, winner of “Best Storyteller” at the 2012 United Solo and LA Weekly Award nomination for Best Solo Performance; Alan Aymie’s A Child Left Behind at the Beverly Hills Playhouse; and W. Kamau Bell’s The Bell Curve: Ending Racism in about an Hour at PS 122 and various theaters across the country.
